Blind Snakes (Anomalepidae, Leptotyphlopidae, and Typhlopidae in the superfamily Typhlopoidea)[1] are a group of burrowing snakes that live in the Southern Kingdoms. They often occupy the role of nest maids in owl families, eating verminous bugs in owls' hollows and watching over owlets. At the Great Ga'Hoole Tree, blind snakes are assigned to various guilds and assist in tasks around the tree. The most notable blind snake character in the series is Mrs. P, Soren's childhood nest maid.

Blind snakes are adapted for burrowing underground, and so do not have any use for eyes and are naturally blind. However, they can sense lights, and in the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series are known to have finely tuned sensibilities and can detect just about everything sighted animals can. They are particularly good at sensing the emotions of owls, and can almost always tell when an owl they know well is out of sorts.
