Wolves

Wolves are first mentioned in The HatchlingPhilip mentions that he saw an eagle pick one up and kill it. Otulissa mentions that all sorts of wolves live in the Northern Kingdoms but Direwolves don't live there.

Direwolves

Direwolves are mentioned as guarding the Ember in The Hatchling. They later start making regular appearances after The Outcast . Important wolves are Hamish, Gyllbane and Cody.

Snakes

Snakes also appear in the series since Book 1.

Blind Snakes

Mrs Philiver is the main blind snake.

Kielan Snakes (fictional species)

Important ones are Octavia and Hoke of Hock .

Flying Snakes

Unlike real flying snakes, they are extremely venomous. Known ones are Slynella and Stingyll .

Rattlesnakes

Coryn and Philip come up against one in The Hatchling .

Lynx

One was hunting in the woods but was scared by Coryn dressed as a Hagsfiend in The Outcast

Bobcat

The Band is attacked by one in The Journey but it is killed.

Bears

Grizzly

In the Hatchling, Phillip tells Nyroc about one. in The Outcast. Coryn convinces the wolves to eat with it at a moose carcass.


Coyotes

Digger sings a song about one in The Journey. Later, in A Guide Book to the Great Tree , Lysa is eaten by one.

Herons

A dead one is seen spinning in the wind in the ferocious winds over the sea to the Middle Kingdoms .

Great Blue

In The Golden Tree , it is recounted that a snooty one that lived in Silverveil threw a fish on Gylfie 's face. A dead one later appears in a tumblebones in The River of Wind .

Deer

One is briefly seen climbing up a hill in The Rescue.
