Barran's face mask

In the movie Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, the two opposing owl armies - the Guardians and the Pure Ones - both use protective helmets/face masks. They are usually made up of a metal face mask and a stitched leather backing. The masks have become synonymous with the movie, having been featured heavily in advertisements.

Notable Helmets[]

Boron and Barran[]

Boron and Barran, being the king and queen of the tree, have the most elaborate helmets in the movie. Both helmets frame and shield much of the face like a standard helmet, but have ornate metalwork on the crown. Boron's helmet depicts a large oak leaf adorned with vines and Ga'Hoole Tree leaves. In the middle of the helmet, between his eyes, is a flaming ember.

Barran's helmet depicts a sprawling tree, likely the Great Ga'Hoole Tree. It too is adorned with vines and Ga'Hoole leaves.

Metal Beak[]

Metal Beak's helmet, from which he gets his name, is made of a dark, almost black metal, except for the Beak, which is gold. The design is reminiscent of fire. It has sharp angles, making it look menacing. The ridges in the middle of the mask resemble the Pure One insignia.

Ezylryb[]

Ezylryb's helmet has a moderate amount of ornamentation. His signature (the same he uses to stamp his books) can be found in the centre of the crown. The metal is tarnished and covered in cracks and scratches, appearing very battle worn.

Guardians[]

The rest of the Guardians have helmets similar to Ezylryb's. Many of them have basic ornamentation of some kind, but not nearly as much as the king and queen's. Each species has a different design of helmet made to fit them.

Pure One Soldiers[]

The Pure One soldiers have very basic helmets with no ornamentation. The masks are made of one piece of dark metal and the backing is crudely stitched black leather. They vaguely resemble skulls and hide most of the owls' face from view.
