Gylfie is an adolescent female Elf Owl from the Desert of Kuneer. She, along with Soren, is one of the main protagonists of the film.
History[]
Before the Film[]
Almost nothing is known about Gylfie's past before the events of the movie, other than that she is from the Desert of Kuneer. However, she does come to St. Aegolius with a knowledge of star navigation and is aware of the effects of moon blinking.
Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole[]
Gylfie first meets Soren while the two are being carried but St. Aeoglius owlet snatchers. Her captor was Grimble. Jatt and Jutt make fun of Gylfie's size - "Did you only get half an owl tonight, Grimble?" - but Grimble does not find their jokes funny.
Gylfie, along with all the other kidnapped owlets, are dropped at the entrance of the Academy for Orphaned Owls. She and Soren stick together. While most of the owlets protest being captured, they are silenced by the arrival of Nyra. Gylfie, however, is the only one to protest against Nyra directly. Soren sticks up for her, but the two are ultimately designated pickers. When the owlets are sent to the Glaucidium and forced to sleep under the full moon, Gylfie immediately recognizes that they are being moon blinked, and tells Soren not to fall asleep. In the morning, Gylfie and Soren are the only two owls who are not moon blinked. Soren tells Gylfie to act moon blinked in order to blend in, with her melodramatic acting catching the attention of Grimble.
Soren and Gylfie breifly work in the pelletorium, but after Soren realizes the danger of the flecks they are picking for, he tells Gylfie that they need to find Kludd and escape. However, Grimble catches them in the act.
Grimble takes Soren and Gylfie to the St. Aegolius library, where he reveals that he wants to teach them to fly. While practising, Gylfie complains that her wings are too short to curl her feathers properly, but Grimble reassures her - "They said Lyze of Kiel's wings were short - didn't stop him."
Grimble is eventually found out by Nyra, Kludd, and two other Pure Ones. Gimble manages to hold off the Pure Ones for a time, but dies in the process. Gylfie and Soren manage to escape, despite Gylfie's leg being slashed by a Pure One soldier.
She and Soren escape from St. Aggie's after nearly falling to her death and getting her leg slashed by a Pure One and found Twilight and Digger.
The Echidna dubbed her "the navigator" of the band, and humorously added "who doubts", due to the fact she doubted the Echidna had any of the powers he claimed to have, which she found insulting. When she arrived at the tree, she and Otulissa immediately disliked each other. She also seemed jealous when Otulissa flirted with Soren. Gylfie is shown to have interest in the stars and Strix Struma's class. Together with the Band, Gylfie helped fight the bats off when the Guardians were ambushed by the Pure Ones.
