Hoke of Hock is a spotted azure-back[1] Kielian snake who's a friend of Octavia and fought along with Lyze and Lil. He lives on Stormfast Island.

Before the Books[]
The Rise of a Legend[]
Ezylryb, then known as Lyze, first met Hoke when he was an owlet. At this point in time, owls and Kielian snakes almost never socialized and kept to their own kind. Lyze's father Rask was bewildered when Lyze wanted to speak with a Kielian snake, but Lyze flew down to the island of Hock anyway to see if he could speak with one. There, he met Hoke, who at first was hostile towards Lyze, but soon warmed up to him. Hoke and Hellie both showed Lyze how Kielian snakes could make their heads various shapes and use them as tools for smashing and shaping rock.

The Burning[]
Ruby and Martin from the Great Tree were sent to find Hoke of Hock. The Kielian snake watched them for a few days upon their arrival. When the two owls finally found him, Hoke of Hock gave them a test to see if they are really allies of Ezylryb. They managed to past it. The owls were in need of Hoke of Hock's assistance of his unit of Kielian snake against a group of evil called the Pure Ones. As the three talked, Hoke explained of his history.
Hoke of Hock later anticipated in the Battle of Ice and Fire along the Kielian snakes.
The War of the Ember []
A long time later, Hoke of Hock was visited by Octavia, who asked him for his assistance in the War of the Ember. Although Hoke thought of himself as old, Octavia assured him his skills are still in tact. Hoke promised the elite force that's under the command of his grandson. He then got a surprise to hear of an intelligent puffin.
