The opening shot, showing the Pure One army

The Battle of the Ice Claws is a deleted scene from Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole. It retells the events of the Battle of the Ice Claws, and how the Guardians defeated the Pure Ones.

Based on the images shown in the Lighting Script in The Art of Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole, it appears that the scene was set to take place before Noctus went hunting, which is the movie's current starting point.

Summary[]

The beginning scenes show the brutality of the Pure Ones, chaining owls by the talons, slicing off the feathers of a Burrowing Owl (who some readers hypothesize is Flick) and a mother owl shielding her owlet while crying. The scene then cuts to a blizzard, and Lyze of Kiel, leading the Guardians, flies towards Metal Beak, leading the Pure Ones. At this point, Metal Beak still has his beak. Metal Beak and Lyze of Kiel are shown fighting, and during the battle Lyze's toe is sliced off, falling towards the ground and becoming lodged in a rock. Lyze then flies up above Metal Beak and clubs him in the face with his battle claws, shattering his beak.

The scene then cuts to Soren, Kludd and Eglantine in their hollow, and it is revealed that the narrator was Noctus telling his children the story. Soren doesn't want Noctus to stop the story, but Noctus says he'll "finish this another time." Kludd believes however it’s just a story.

Legend of the Guardians - The Owls of Ga´hoole, deleted scene - Battle of the Ice Claws

Transcript[]

"They called themselves the Pure Ones. They led a crusade against us, their aim to take control of all the owl kingdoms. The Pure Ones' methods were harsh and unyielding. What they didn't take, they burnt to the ground. Those they couldn't enslave, they destroyed. Owls, the noblest of all birds, suddenly found themselves humbled, and soon, in despair. Those who surrendered became forever earthbound. All would have been lost to the Pure Ones, but for a differend band of owls, who rose from the mists of the Sea of Hoolemere and from The Great Tree itself. A group of warriors, selfless and courageous, who has sworn an oath to once more make strong the weak, to mend the broken, to vanquish the evil. The Guardians of Ga'Hoole. They followed their leader, Lyze of Kiel, to meet the Pure Ones and their leader, Metal Beak, in a great and final battle, The Battle of The Ice Claws. Both sides fought fiercely. Metal Beak's forces were greater in number and the Pure Ones seemed to gain the advantage. As the battle bruises all the Guardians' eyes turned to Lyze of Kiel."
