The egg that she laid, that was later to be Fritha, was rather small even for a pygmy owl. It had a long crack up the middle and both Flinn and Freya thought it wasn't going to hatch.
Before she left for a fight, she instructed Flinn that if she didn't return that he should smash the egg for it had almost no chance of hatching. She then left and didn't come back. The rest of the kraals confirmed that she had been killed. Flinn didn't listen to his mate's instructions and kept the egg warm. When it did hatch, he was overjoyed that his mate's only egg had hatched.
