Kludd's Rival
Species: Tasmanian Masked Owl, Tyto castanops
Gender: Male
Book Appearances
Appears in: Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole
An unnamed Tasmanian Masked Owl appears in the movie Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole. He is one of eight young Tytonidae owls training with Nyra, and appears to challenge Kludd, trying to beat him during training exercises. He has no spoken lines, but makes a few screeching and yelling sounds.

The masked owl serves as Kludd's rival. When they are training to be soldiers, the masked owl gives Kludd a look and attempts to fly higher than him, but fails.

Later, a blue bird is let loose and the owls are challenged to capture it. The masked owl pushes and claws Kludd out of the way as he flies, kicking stones in his face, but Kludd eventually catches up and pushes him aside to grab the bird.

He is next seen when the new soldiers meet Metal Beak for the first time. He bows his head with the others, and keeps it bowed as Kludd is called forward.

Trivia / Speculation

  • Some fans suspect the owl is Vaygar, a young masked owl Pure One who appears in Lost Tales of Ga'hoole, but this is just a theory.
  • While he sounds and appears to be male, his coloration is characteristic of a female.
  • In The Art of Legend of the Guardians, he and the other Tytos are referred to as "Pure Ones trainee owlet soldiers".
  • He is possibly voiced by additional voice actor Trent Dalzell.
