Raskin (formally known as General Raskin Megascops Trichopsis, nicknamed Rask) was a male Whiskered Screech Owl. He was the mate of Ulfa and the father of Lyze, Lysa, Ifghar and Edvard. He was missing all of the whiskers on one side of his face.
History[]
Before the Books[]
Before the events of The Rise of a Legend, Rask was a supreme commander of the Kielian League. He, along with his mate Ulfa, had been fighting in the War of the Ice Claws for a long time.
The Rise of a Legend[]
When Lyze hatches, his parents are off fighting, and so he doesn't see them until he is old enough to have his First Meat Ceremony. Rask is enthusiastic about meeting Lyze when he returns.
Rask and Ulfa were almost immediately called back into battle after Ulfa laid an egg, which hatched into Lysa. He was never able to meet her though, as the family hollow was destroyed in a fire during a Ice Talon raid on Stormfast Island and his new hatchling was killed. He briefly grieved for her, but as lingering emotions were considered a sign of weakness for seasoned soldiers, he and his mate forced themselves to quickly move on and lay another egg.
Their new egg hatched into Ifghar, and Lyze was called back home to visit and meet his new brother. Right after Ifghar's First-Meat-on-Bones ceremony, Rask was to return to the battle front where he was soon slain, taking an ice sword to the gizzard while fighting in the H’rath Range. It is believed that his death was influenced by the arrival of Tantya Hanja right before his return to battle, as her presence is seen as an ill omen.
