Strix Emerilla was a female Spotted Owl, or Strix occidentalis, who was the daughter of Strix Hurthwell and Strix Strumajen during the time of the legends of Ga'Hoole. She was well known for being an excellent fighter with the short ice blade.
Before the BooksEdit
Emerilla was at the rotting Ice Palace, which had been taken over by a mad owl named Shadyk. She used the false name of Sigrid and posed as a servant, meanwhile the assassination of Shadyk for his corrupt and torturing behavior.
Theo, a Great Horned Owl who served King Hoole and the brother of Shadyk, met Emerilla. He was to find her and report to her mother. When Emerilla asked how he found her, Theo simply replied he just knew. She later told him of his brother's nature and the assassination. The two owls later escaped the Ice Palace, when two guards attacked them.
After the battle of Long Night, Hoole met Emerilla at the Ice Palace, saying she was at the Ice Narrows. Emerilla was confused, as she hadn't been. Then another owl who looked like her appeared. The other Emerilla was Lutta, a hagsfiend changling. Strix Stramujen killed Lutta, and then embraced her daughter. Hoole and Emerilla later became mates and had chicks, finally leading down to Otulissa
- According to Svarr, Lord Arrin had wanted Emerilla as his mate.
- Otulissa may be related to Hoole, as her ancestor, Strix Emerilla, may be related to the Emerilla of the legends.
