In this last chapter in the great saga of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole, the Striga and Nyra join to conjure a malignant power from Hagsmire itself. When news of their alliance reaches the Great Ga'Hoole Tree, the Guardians call to good creatures everywhere: gadfeathers, kraals, polar bears, green-owls, puffins, seagulls, and dire wolves. An army of free creatures marches, swims and flies to the Hot Gates of the Beyond, where the fate of the six owl kingdoms will be decided once and for all.

The final battle that will decide the fate of not only the owl world, but the entire six kingdoms is about to come, and is brought upon Nyra and the Striga as they fight for the Ember of Hoole and attempt to use it to bring natchmagen back into the world of owls. Animals of all kind come together to fight off this threat.

The world of owls seems to be in a time of peace and it is a year later after the roust of the Striga from the Great Tree. Many are learning more and knowledge is spreading through out the kingdoms. Even Tengshu has stayed to teach owls at the Great Tree about the way of Danyar.Will the guardians save the owl kingdoms?Or will the Pure Ones rule their world without pity?
