Little is known about the old High Tyto except that he was the leader of the Pure Ones before Kludd, and that he was most likely a Barn Owl, or Tyto alba, as they are given the highest Pure One rankings. He also had a pellet yarped into his face by Uglamore and he had an unknown mate.

In The Siege, it is revealed that together, Kludd and Nyra planned to overthrow the old High Tyto and make Kludd the leader of the Pure Ones. Kludd did so, but in the battle lost his beak and half his face, forcing him to wear a metal mask and earning him the title "Metal Beak."
